Being Here And Now With Your Relationship(s) Featuring Wendi Dumbroff

Thanks Wendi Dumbroff for being on People On Dating Podcast

About Wendi

Hello, my name is Wendi Dumbroff, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I understand that the decision to come to therapy is a difficult one. A person is likely in a very vulnerable place already, which can understandably make it even harder to reach out to a total stranger for help. I believe, however, that it is a great strength, and a very courageous act, to ask for help when something is not working in our lives or our relationships. I work with individuals, couples, and families who are dealing with many different kinds of problems. These include depression, anxiety, couples conflict and affairs, family conflict, divorcing families, raising adolescents, parenting issues, parent/child relationships (including parents and adult children), LGBTQ issues, sexual issues, and so much more.

 Why Counseling

I view counseling as a collaborative process that is co-created between therapist and client(s). There is no one “truth” that fits for everyone, as each individual and each relationship are unique and special entities. I believe it is important not only to address the things that are not working for clients, but also, to bring forth the many strengths and positive qualities they possess.

Cultural competency is of utmost importance in my work. I am very aware of the lenses, which I see through, given my gender, race, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. I know that my experiences in life are different from others’ experiences and I work hard to understand these differences.

A Little Bit About My Training

I have specialized training in family and couples therapy, which I obtained through a post-graduate program at the “Ackerman Institute for the Family” in New York City. In my four years at the Ackerman Institute, I learned how to work with families and couples through intensive supervision, didactic learning, and working with clients. I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from and be mentored by, some of the best and most well known therapists in the fields of family and couples therapy.

Sexual Issues With Couples

I am currently pursuing post-graduate certification in the area of sex therapy. Sexual issues are very prevalent in my work with couples as well as individuals, whether they identify as heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer, and whether their sexual preferences are more mainstream or kinky. I will provide you with a safe, sex positive environment to discuss your most personal issues.

The End Goal

My hope is to provide you with a non-judgmental, open, and safe environment to talk about whatever it is that brings you to therapy. Ultimately, I want to help create positive change in the lives of my clients.
